The Rise And Fall Of 2GO: Valid lessons to learn from one of Africa’s first social media platforms founded by 2 South Africans.

BACK STORY

2go used to be one of the biggest and most widely used social platforms in Africa as far as 2007, with over 5 million downloads on Play Store alone, with access to over 1,500 devices with features and access to connect with people far and wide in Africa. But, something happened!

2GO failed after the rise of WhatsApp in 2009… Why? Find out below:👇

2GO failed when WhatsApp launched its new feature that allowed people to chat for free, create groups, share memories via status updates, including other amazing features that allow you to voice call and video chat with your friends, family, and loved ones. 2GO failed to implement these features early enough which caused it to crash and experience difficulty with catching up.

LESSONS FOR TODAY’S BRANDS

📍Listen to your audience: Always ask questions, request for feedbacks and interact with your customers/ users by creating online surveys to give room for your audience to air their views on their thoughts about your products.

📍 Adjust to trends: Pay attention to the moves being made by your competitors, what your audience is gravitates towards and craves.

📍Innovate new ideas into your product: Give room for growth by innovating, trying and including new features to improve your products for your audience.

📍Try AB Testing: Include features that meet specific needs of your audience/ users/ customers, then, monitor its usability for about six months and get feedback from your audience. If it performs well, improve on it and make it worth it.

📍Be Flexible: Do not put all of your eggs in one basket. Try creating new features and adding value to increase the worth of your product in the eyes of your audience.

In essence, as a brand that seeks to grow and expand in this 21st century, you must be ready to listen to your audience, adjust to and hop on trends, innovatively create new ideas, try AB-Testing, and be flexible and adaptive to growth in this ever-changing tech world and as a tech brand.
